Zoom has introduced Two-Factor Authentication for privacy and security of its users and this creates a layer of additional security.
The new 2FA feature asks users to present two or more evidence or credentials that authenticate their ownership of the account.
According to the company, Zoom’s 2FA provides a free and effective way to validate users and protect against security breaches.
“The Two-Factor Authentication identifies online users by requiring them to present two or more pieces of evidence, or credentials, that authenticate their ownership of the account, such as something the user knows (a password or pin), something the users owns (a smart card or mobile device), or something the user has (fingerprints, voice), ” explained Zoom.
2FA provides an extra layer of security and reduces the risk of identity theft and security breaches. With implementing 2FA, prevents hackers from accessing accounts by guessing the passwords or gaining access to employee’s or student’s devices.
How to enable?
- Sign in to the Zoom dashboard
- Click Advanced, then Security in the navigation menu
- Ensure the Sign in with Two-Factor Authentication option is enabled. Only the admin can enable this setting.
- Select one of these options to enable 2FA for: All users in your account: Enable 2FA for all users in the account.
Users can choose to verify using a one-time password (OTP) through authentication apps that support Time-Based OTP (TOTP) protocol such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and FreeOTP. They can also choose to receive their OTP through SMS or a phone call as OTP is the second verification step after a password.
It can be expensive to pay for SSO service for schools and small businesses. Zoom’s 2FA provides a free and effective way to validate users and protect against security breaches.
“Implementing 2FA helps organisations meet compliance obligations for sensitive data and customer information, ” said Zoom.
