Hackers breached the app of Yandex, the largest taxi service in Moscow, sending dozens of cars to the same location simultaneously.
According to a spokesperson, on the morning of September 1, Yandex taxis encountered an attempt by attackers to disrupt the service - where several dozen drivers received bulk orders to the Fili district of Moscow.
The company is owned by Russian information technology (IT) giant Yandex, the largest taxi service in the country.
“The security service of Yandex Taxi promptly stopped the attempts of artificial congestion of cars and improved the algorithm for detecting and preventing such attacks from preventing similar incidents in the future.”
According to the cyber experts, the hackers bypassed Yandex’s security and generated several fake requests that directed drivers simultaneously to drive to the same location.
The firm is yet to confirm who was behind the attack, but the hacktivist group Anonymous claimed responsibility for the jam on Twitter. It further stated that the breach was part of a more extensive hacking campaign against Russia dubbed ‘OpRussia’.
