TIP 1:

To ensure security, you have to opt the option for ‘your approval’ for anyone to ‘follow’ you so that the person can view or comment on your posts.

Follow these steps to make it private:

Step 1: click on right top corner

Step 2: Tap Privacy

 (only people you approve can see your photos and videos. Your existing  followers won’t be affected)

Step 3: Select Account Privacy

Step 4: Turn on to Private account 

TIP 2:

Enable Two-Factor Authentication.

If you are really worried about someone creeping into your account, then setting up two factor authentication is a must.

To set it up, follow the instructions given below,

  1. Navigate to your profile go to “settings”>“Privacy and security ”>“Get started.”
  2. Toggle on “Text Message.”
  3. If you prefer to use an authentication app like Google Authenticator, tap on “Authentication App” instead. The app will check if you already have one installed. 

TIP 3:

Always think before you authorize any third-party app. Check on every single app that you are allowed to access and use your Instagram account.

Here’s how to do that:

  1. Log in to your Instagram account from the browser (desktop / laptop).
  2. Click on the profile photo at  the top right corner and select “Edit Profile.”
  3. From the menu, select “Manage Applications ”. It will lead you to a page where you can manage the apps that you authorized to use your Instagram.

General Guidelines to follow:

  • You have to take care while posting a photo, as it has an option of giving the location. It is highly  recommended not to give the pin the location for your secure internet life.
  • If you log in to your Instagram account from other devices, please make sure you log out everytime.
  • Hide your Instagram stories and live videos from specific people to ensure your privacy.

Above mentioned are some of the basic privacy setting changes that you have to make to prevent an attack from cybercriminals in the internet world.
