University of Vermont Medical (UVM) Center costs the hospital around $1.5 million a day in lost revenue and recovery costs.
The ransomware attack took place on October 28 disrupting services at the UVM Medical Center and affiliated facilities.
Hospital CEO Dr Stephen Leffler disclosed that the attack took place in late October infecting all 5,000 computers on the hospital's network.
The root cause of the attack is still not determined, and Leffler estimates that about 70% recovered from the attack.
The operation could take additional time to restore it's systems and will give more information into the attack within next week.
“The hospital is still grappling with the impacts of the attack six weeks after a hacker downed all of its online operations. Though many of the medical centre’s systems have been restored, Leffler predicted a “multi week process” to address a backlog of postponed appointments and the slew of handwritten documents that must be entered into the online system,” states VTDigger.
“Hospital CEO Dr Stephen Leffler estimated on a call with reporters on Tuesday that they are about 70% recovered from the attack.” state the post published by the Associated Press.
“Leffler says they’re still trying to pinpoint the exact root of the cyberattack, but they hope to provide more details about the investigation next week, including whether it was a ransomware attack similar to what other hospitals around the country experienced.”
