The UK’s Labour Party disclosed a data breach after a third party that handled membership data on its behalf reported a `cyber incident’.
- The Labour Party revealed that on 29 October 2021, it was informed of the cyber incident by a third party.
- The incident had resulted in “a significant quantity of party data being rendered inaccessible on their systems”.
- Labour said it was also working closely with the unnamed IT supplier to understand the incident's full nature, circumstance, and impact.

After informing relevant authorities about the incident, the data breach was revealed in a data breach notification published on the party’s website.
“On 29 October 2021, we were informed of the cyber incident by the third party. The third party told us that the incident had resulted in a significant quantity of Party data being rendered inaccessible on their systems," the breach notice reads.
"As soon as the Party was notified of these matters, we engaged third-party experts, and the incident was immediately reported to the relevant authorities, including the National Crime Agency (NCA), National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)."
Data involved in the incident includes information provided by members, registered and affiliated supporters, and others who have provided their info to the party.

There is no confirmation of how much membership data has been compromised, but the words `significant quantity’ does not signify well.
Some media outlets are reporting it was a ransomware attack on the unnamed party.
