French-headquartered IT outsourcer Sopra Steria suffered a ransomware attack on October 20, 2020, encrypting portions of their network with Ryuk ransomware.

Sopra Steria is a European information technology (IT) consultancy with 46,000 employees in 25 countries generated revenue of €4.4 billion in2014. The company provides consulting services, systems integration, integration of ERP, implementation of applications, as well as providing technical support to users and application maintenance and outsourcing services and operation of professional processes.

Sopra Steria issued a statement on October 21 that they had suffered a cyberattack on the evening of October 20, 2020. The company did not confirm any details about the extent of the damage caused. Any information on the ransom demand is not known.

The company stated that security measures had been implemented to limit the spread of the ransomware. The company explained that its team is working to restore it's operations back to normalcy. 

The firm is in close contact with its customers and partners as well as the competent authorities.

Sources familiar with the attack told that the Sopra Steria network was encrypted by Ryuk ransomware.

Ryuk is one of the most dangerous ransomware groups that operated through phishing campaigns.
