The Development Bank of Seychelles (DBS) hit by an unknown ransomware operator according to the statements published by The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS).

The Development Bank of Seychelles 

The Development Bank of Seychelles was established as a joint venture by the Seychelles government and several other shareholders including the European Investment bank, Caisse Francaise de Cooperation, Deutsche Investigations und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG) and Standard Chartered Bank. The DBS has been operating for more than 40 years but the beginning of August 2020 was not the best time for the Seychelles banking sector.

According to the press release published by CBS, the Development Bank of Seychelles revealed the ransomware attack on Wednesday 9 September 2020.

As soon the incident came under notice, CBS has been engaging with DBS to establish the exact nature and circumstances of the incident and closely monitor the developments, including the possible impact on DBS operations.

The CBS has also pointed up the need for DBS to maintain communication throughout the process with its clients and other stakeholders, mainly within the banking sector.

It is still not clear about demands of the ransomware attackers and neither the ransom amount has been revealed.

The CBS promised to provide further details to the public soon after the full extent of this reality is clearly understood.

The ransomware attackers have not made any official statements, so it is not clear about the bad actors behind this attack.

CBS reassures the public that it remains vigilant and stands ready to take appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the financial system and maintain confidence in the banking sector.
