Foxconn electronics manufacturer has confirmed that hackers have breached their systems and threatened to leak files if the ransom is not paid.

The company confirmed that one of its Mexico-based production plants had been impacted by cybercriminals in late May.

A threat group that employs the LockBit 2.0 ransomware claims to have hit this factory and threatens to release stolen data on June 11 unless the victim pays up.

It is unclear if the ransomware attack impacted operational technology (OT) systems.

The attacked Foxconn factory is located in Tijuana, Mexico. It is considered a strategic facility that acts as a critical supply hub for the U.S. state of California, a significant electronics consumer.

In a statement to BleepingComputer, Foxconn has ensured that the effect on its overall operations will be minimal, and the recovery will unfold according to a predetermined plan.

LockBit's demands are still unknown at the moment, but they are likely to be quite large, given that the gang generally targets successful companies that can pay larger ransoms.

Foxconn also suffered a ransomware attack in December 2020, where the hackers claimed to have breached its Mexican facility.
