The Ragnar Locker ransomware gang warns victims that they will leak the stolen data if they contact law enforcement agencies.

  • The Ragnar Locker ransomware group announced on its darker data-leak site that they would publish the stolen data if the victims try to contact the FBI or ransomware negotiations.
  • The same applies to victims that call in data-recovery experts who try to decrypt files or help out with negotiating the ransom or the decryption process.

The Ragnar Locker ransomware gang warns victims that they will leak the stolen data if they contact law enforcement agencies.

The threat also pertains to victims reaching data recovery experts to attempt decryption and perform the negotiation process.

In any such event, the group will disclose the victim's complete data on their .onion site.

According to Bleeping Computer, the ransomware operator claims that victim organisations who hire "professional negotiators" only worsen the recovery process. That's because such negotiators are often working with data recovery companies affiliated with the FBI and similar authorities.

“In our practice, we has facing with the professional negotiators much more often in last days. Unfortunately it’s not making the process easier or safer; on the contrary, it’s actually makes all even worse. Such negotiator are usually working in recovery-companies affiliated or even working directly in Police/FBI/investigation agencies etc. They are totally not interested in commercial success of their clients or the safety of theirs private data,” reads the announcement.

“So from this moment we warn all our clients, if you will hire any recovery company for negotiations or if you will send requests to the Police/FBI/Investigators, we will consider this as a hostile intent, and we will initiate the publication of whole compromised Data immediately.”

As reported by BleepingComputer, Ragnar Locker's past victims have included computer chip manufacturer ADATA, Japanese game maker Capcom, and aviation giant Dassault Falcon.

The FBI does not support paying the ransom as it motivates criminals to target even more victims and incentivise other cybercrime gangs to follow their way in performing illegal activities.
