The Twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal website and the Narendra Modi Mobile App was hacked around 3:15 am on Thursday.

“Yes, this account is hacked by John Wick (hckindia@tutanota.com), we have not hacked Paytm Mall, ” read one of the tweets posted on the account.

A series of tweets asked followers to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency. The same have since been taken down.

Modi's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the tweets posted on the account narendramodi_in.

“We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted,” a Twitter spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.

Twitter also said that it was aware of the activity and has taken steps to secure the compromised account.

Hackers had accessed several accounts of prominent personalities including Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Joe Biden in July and used them to solicit digital currency.
