Japanese tech giant and camera maker Olympus shuts down its IT systems in the US, Canada and Latin America following a cyberattack.

  • Olympus was hit by a significant cyberattack forcing the company to shut down IT systems in the US, Canada and Latin America. 
  • The company said it is “investigating a potential cybersecurity incident detected October 10” and is currently working with the experts to resolve this issue.

Japanese tech giant and camera maker Olympus shuts down its IT systems in the US, Canada and Latin America following a cyberattack.

The supposed incident reportedly happened on October 10, 2021, and has affected the company's IT system.

“Upon detection of suspicious activity, we immediately mobilized a specialized response team including forensics experts, and we are currently working with the highest priority to resolve this issue,” reads a press release published by the company.

The firm had suspended affected systems and had informed relevant external partners. According to the investigation, the incident was contained to its IT systems in the US, Canada and Latin America and with no known impact on other regions.

“We are working with appropriate third parties in this situation and will continue to take all necessary measures to serve our customers and business partners securely. Protecting our customers and partners and maintaining their trust in us is our highest priority,” continues the press release.

In September, the company had its European, Middle East, and Africa network affected by yet another cyberattack.
