The ransomware gang LockBit claims to have stolen data from a supplier to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which manufactures and launches rockets and spacecraft.
The ransomware group breached the production company's systems, which also stole its data, including documents from an American spacecraft manufacturer and a satellite communications company.
The group says to have stolen roughly 3,000 “drawings certified by space-x engineers,” which the gang plans to sell “to other manufacturers” through auction in a week.
“I would say we were lucky if SPACE-X contractors were more talkative. But I think this material will find its buyer as soon as possible.” states the message posted by Lockbit operators on the dark-web home page.
“Elon Musk, we will help you sell your drawings to other manufacturers – build the ship faster and fly away. and now about the numbers: about 3,000 drawings certified by spaced engineers.”
It is unclear how LockBit could hack Maximum Industries to acquire the blueprints, but it makes sense that SpaceX's partner would have them in the first place. SpaceX has not yet responded to LockBit's allegations. They are presumably required to produce aerospace components used to develop the technology.
