Tokio Marine, a multinational insurance holding company, announced that its Singapore branch suffered a ransomware attack this week.
Tokio Marine Holdings is the largest (revenue-wise) property and casualty insurance group in Japan.
The announcement came at the beginning of the week and contained little information about the incident outside the action taken to deal with the intrusion.
Tokio Marine comments that the ransomware attack affected Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore (TMiS) and that other companies in the country suffered no damage.
It is still unclear when or how the attack took place and the damage it caused. As soon as the attack took place, TMiS isolated the network and informed the local government agencies.
The parent company says that it “can confirm that there is no indication of a breach of any customer information nor confidential information of the Group.”
The company added that they have appointed a specialised external vendor to perform a third-party analysis of the systems to verify the scope of impact.
The company disclosed the incident on its website in both Japanese and English, apologising to its customers for any “inconvenience and concern caused.”
