HealthCare.gov, a government’s health insurance system website suffered a data breach exposing personal records of 75,000 people. The breach was disclosed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Friday and said that they discovered a suspicious activity in the Federally Facilitated Exchanges, or FFE’s Direct Enrollment pathway for agents and brokers on October 13. “Earlier this week, CMS staff detected anomalous activity in the Federally Facilitated Exchanges, or FFE’s Direct Enrollment pathway for agents and brokers. The Direct Enrollment pathway, first launched in 2013, allows agents and brokers to assist consumers with applications for coverage in the FFE” HealthCare.gov is used by agents and brokers to help customers to sign up for health care plans. According to reports, The hackers compromised systems connected to HealthCare.gov website. The company did not reveal more details about the breach and what all information were accessed by hackers. CMS said that they are investigating the issue and have notified federal law enforcement authorities about the breach. "We are working to identify the individuals potentially impacted as quickly as possible so that we can notify them and provide resources such as credit protection," said CMS Administrator Seema Verma in a statement. CMS also said that HealthCare.gov and the Marketplace Call Center are still available and are not affected by the breach.
