The breach has affected sensitive and classified information stored on its web platform, the Europol Platform for Experts (EPE).

Europol, the European Union's law enforcement agency, has experienced a data breach. The breach has affected sensitive and classified information stored on its web platform, the Europol Platform for Experts (EPE).

EPE is an online platform utilized by law enforcement experts to exchange knowledge, best practices, and non-personal crime-related data.

"Europol is aware of the incident and is assessing the situation. Initial actions have already been taken. The incident concerns a Europol Platform for Expert (EPE) closed user group," Europol told BleepingComputer.

"No operational information is processed on this EPE application. No core systems of Europol are affected, and therefore, no operational data from Europol has been compromised."

The cybercriminal referred to various sources, with the Europol Platform for Experts (EPE) confirmed as the primary focus of the incident. Since May 10, the platform has been offline for maintenance.

While the European Union's crimefighting agency hasn't explicitly denied the legitimacy of the claims, the event hasn't been acknowledged as a breach into the systems.

The law enforcement agency has stated that an investigation is underway, with initial measures already implemented.
