The financial data of 3.3 lakh users of  Indian Cryptocurrency Exchange Company BuyUCoin leaked on the DarkWeb by ShinyHunters.

Earlier this week, Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajharia discovered the data leak on the Dark Web, which included more than 3 lakh BuyUcoin user details.

The leaked database contains people’s usernames, contact numbers, PAN numbers, email addresses, bank details, including IFSC code and the type of account.

“The leaked data contains sensitive information, which hackers can use to make transactions in cryptocurrency. In such cases, the onus is on the firm to inform users that there has been a breach,” said Rajaharia.

“In the mid of 2020, while conducting a routine testing exercise with dummy data, we faced a ‘Low Impact Security Incident’ in which non-sensitive, dummy data of only 200 entries were impacted. We would like to clarify that not a single customer was affected, ” said the firm.

Rajaharia said that the hacker group known as ShinyHunters were behind the leak and shared screenshots of the data dump with the paper.

BuyUCoin, has denied the breach and said: “reports of 3.5 lakh users being compromised is incorrect.” It expanded that the company conducted “ a routine testing with dummy data” in mid-2020.
