McDonald's was hit by a data breach exposing the personal data of some customers and employees in South Korea and Taiwan.
The company stated that attackers accessed emails, delivery addresses and phone numbers, but the breach did not include customer payment data
“While we were able to close off access quickly after identification, our investigation has determined that a small number of files were accessed, some of which contained personal data, " said McDonald's Corporation.
McDonald’s said its day-to-day operations were not impacted and that a ransom was not involved.
“In the coming days, a few additional markets will take measures to address files that contained employee personal data," reported McDonald's, though it did not disclose which markets were hit by the breach.
The company said its investigation concluded that only South Korea and Taiwan had personal data accessed. They would be taking measures to notify regulators and the customers who may be affected.
“ McDonald’s will leverage the findings from the investigation as well as input from security resources to identify ways to further enhance our existing security measures," stated the company.
Recent breaches at global companies, including meat processor JBS and oil transport company Colonial Pipeline have resulted in supply shortages.
