Iranian private airline Mahan Air was hit by a cyberattack over the weekend, adding that the attack did not impact the airliner’s flight schedule.
Mahan Air is Iran's leading private airline and the second biggest after the national carrier Iran Air. The airline has been on the blacklist of Iranian companies targeted by US sanctions since 2011.
Amirhossein Zolanvari, head of the airliner’s public relations office, told state TV that international and domestic flights are operating on schedule without any disruptions
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, Mahan Air was hit by identical attacks “many times,” for this reason, Mahan’s Cyber Security Team quickly neutralised these attacks.
“This is considered a normal occurrence, and Mahan’s Cyber Security Team has always acted intelligently and in a timely manner to neutralise these attacks,” reported the company.
Hooshyarane Vatan hacker group claimed responsibility for the attack and added that it was able to access emails, reports and internal documents that linked the airline to the IRGC. The group explained that the firm was able to observe the security breach but did not stop it.
Last month a cyberattack in Iran shut down a government system that manages fuel subsidies.
