A major Airline company in Thailand, Bangkok Airways, admits it was the victim of a cyberattack that compromised passenger’s data.

The threat actors published a message on their leak site claiming to have breached the airline and threatening to leak stolen data if the company does not pay the ransom.

LockBit claims to have stolen more than 200GB of data belonging to the company. The message published by the gang highlights the poor security implemented by the company.

On August 23, the company discovered the breach and instantly began an investigation to determine the extent of the breach with the assistance of a cybersecurity team.

The information exposed during the attack includes names, nationalities, genders, phone numbers, emails, addresses, historical travel information, passport information, partial credit card information and special meal details.

According to the statement, the attackers could not affect Bangkok Airways' operational or aeronautical security systems.

“For primary prevention measures, the company highly recommends passengers to contact their bank or credit card provider and follow their advice and change any compromised passwords as soon as possible," the company said.

The company also cautioned passengers to be aware of any suspicious or unsolicited calls or emails. It urged them to contact the police or take legal action if they get any notices purporting to be from Bangkok Airways.

LockBit is the same ransomware gang that allegedly stole 6TB of data from Accenture and demanded a $50 million payment to stop the data leak. The threat group announced that it would release the data on August 30.
