The security breach came to light during a security audit, prompting the company to promptly alert relevant authorities. AnyDesk has not disclosed whether a data breach occurred as a result.
AnyDesk is a widely used remote access solution that enables users to access computers either over a network or the internet. The program is particularly popular among enterprises, employing it for purposes such as remote support and accessing colocated servers.
Initiating a remediation and response plan, the company enlisted the assistance of the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. AnyDesk emphasized that this security breach is unrelated to ransomware.
“Following indications of an incident on some of our systems, we conducted a security audit and found evidence of compromised production systems. We immediately activated a remediation and response plan involving cyber security experts CrowdStrike. The remediation plan has concluded successfully. The relevant authorities have been notified and we are working closely with them. This incident is not related to ransomware.” reads the incident response notice published by the company.
As a precautionary measure, AnyDesk announced the revocation of all passwords to its web portal and advised users to change their passwords if the same credentials are utilized elsewhere.
