The hacker claims he managed to hack into dark web hosting service freedom hosting II and bring down one fifth of the entire dark web that means over 10000 websites. It is a massive blow to the pedophile darknet, which is mostly hosted by freedom hosting. Visitors to the website were welcomed with the message “Hello, Freedom Hosting II, you have been hacked.”
The freedom hosting II was hosting substantial amount child pornography. Usually, it allows only 256 MB of data to be hosted per site. But the hacker found that there were gigabytes of porn being hosted an indicator that hosting server knew about the porn and allowed it to carry on. Here not only the usual content was replaced with hacker’s message, but also, it served up a data dump (without user details), and it includes the email addresses of nearly 381,000 users. At least 21 percent of these already are included on haveibeenpwned.com, a website that tracks user data leaks. Earlier the first freedom hosting service was compromised by FBI in August 2013, and its owner Eric Eoin Marques was arrested. Here he said he intends to hand over the data to a security researcher who will hand over it to law and enforcement authorities. Reportedly, the hacker just needs the control over a site(current or new). Then change a configuration file, triggering a password reset and getting a root access.
