Servers at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were down, suspecting it to be a ransomware attack.

On November 23, the server for National Informatics Centre’s e-Hospital, which is being used at AIIMS, was down.

This impacted the outpatient and inpatient digital hospital services, including billing, smart lab, the appointment system, report generation etc. After this, the hospital services have been running in manual mode.

The NIC team working at AIIMS said this might be a ransomware attack that has been reported to cybercrime and will be investigated by appropriate law enforcement authorities.

The server used by the hospital has very confidential information related to the healthcare records of the Prime Minister, the President, former MPs and other ministers.

Statement released by the AIIMS management

“Measures are being taken to restore the digital services, and support is being sought from Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and National Informatics Centre (NIC). AlIMS and NIC will take due precaution to prevent future such attacks,” a statement added.
