The Conti ransomware gang hits Advantech, demanding a ransom of $13 million to avoid leaking of stolen files and to decrypt affected systems.
Chip maker Advantech is a global leader in the fields of loT intelligent systems and embedded platforms. The company has around 8,000 employees worldwide.
On November 21, 2020, the ransomware operators announced that they would leak a part of stolen data if there is no response from the company within the next day.
The ransomware gang also added that they are willing to decrypt two of the encrypted files as proof before the ransom is paid.
On November 26, the ransomware gang began to leak the stolen data from Advantech, an archive of 3.03GB that accounts for 2% of the total amount of stolen data and a text document with a list of files included in the ZIP archive.
According to BleepingComputer, the Conti ransomware gang also confessed that if the ransom is paid, they will quickly remove any backdoors deployed on the company’s network and will provide security tips on how to secure the network to block further breaches. The operators also said that any stolen data would be deleted once the payment is made.
The company did not issue any public statements regarding the ransomware attacks on its systems.
The Conti ransomware was first spotted at the end of December 2019 and operated as a private Ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS).
