The Indian government recently experienced a major data breach, which resulted in the leak of Aadhaar details of approximately 81.5 million individuals.

Hackers claim that the information was extracted from the Covid-19 test details of citizens registered with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

It has been reported that over 81.5 crore Indians' personal information has been leaked online, the most significant data leak in the country. The information was obtained allegedly from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

An American cyber security and intelligence agency, Resecurity, first noticed the leak, according to the report.

'Pwn001', an anonymous threat actor, posted a thread on Breach Forums, which describes itself as a 'premier Data Breach discussion and leaks forum, enabling access to the records of 815 million (81.5 crore) Indian citizens.

As a point of comparison, Iran, Turkey, and Germany, the 17th, 18th, and 19th most populous nations worldwide, respectively, have roughly ten times as many people. India, on the other hand, has around 1.43 billion people.

An account called 'pwn001' advertised Aadhaar and passport information as well as names, phone numbers, and addresses the hacker claims were obtained from Covid-19 test details.

Aadhaar data fragments posted by 'pwn001' were analysed and found to be valid Aadhaar card IDs.

According to the report, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will likely investigate the matter once it receives a complaint from ICMR. However, there has yet to be an official response from ICMR or the government.

Aside from this, all top officials from various agencies and ministries have been called in. The required Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has also been implemented to control the damage.
