Is India Among the 99 Countries Under WannaCry Global Attack?

It is quite embarrassing information that India is also one among the 99 countries under the global fast spreading WannaCry cyberattack. The highlighted incidents were at UK NHS hospitals which had cut down their daily services and operations, a telecom network in Spain, and a few reports also came from Russia in the last two days.WannaCry has created a major impact on different states of India. On Saturday, reports came from Andhra Pradesh that 102 computer systems OF AP POLICE were hacked. States in southern India like Chennai also reported that the malware has affected the production at a Nissan-Renault Alliance plant.National Cyber Security Adviser in the Prime Minister's Office Gulshan Rai told leading Indian news media TOI: "About 100 systems were attacked but as of now there are no more threats."  The attack is accomplished through an outdated version of Windows that did not patch up or update. Microsoft had earlier given instructions to update as the hack tools were leaked by a hacker group known as Shadow Brokers from NSA (National Security Agency). This gap was exploited by the attackers.  60-70% of ATMs and other machines in India are prone to similar cyberattacks as they are using these older versions of Windows. Microsoft has now released patch up tools and updates for outdated systems. Industry experts advice to update and patch as soon as possible to prevent further attacks. Meanwhile, Kill Switch domain has been accidentally found which can halt the spread of WannaCry. Unfortunately, already infected systems are not benefitted with Kill Switch.But the criminals are one step ahead launching a new variant WannaCry 2.0 which does not have Kill Switch functionality. This has become a major threat around the globe and world CISOs are under pressure to prevent any further infections.All the CISOs are advised to give proper awareness and strict instructions to the employees on the respective matter.
